 The
Enforcement Branch of Kolkata Police is headed by a Deputy Commissioner
of Police. The main functions of this unit is detection and prevention
of commercial crimes and enforcement of control laws and orders relating
to essential commodities as well as detection and prevention of circulation
of spurious drugs, adulteration of foodstuff and movement of smuggled
goods. This department is also engaged in prevention of evasion of
taxes and duties and prosecution of offenders. Officers of the Enforcement
Branch regularly conduct drives against vagrants and beggars and short
weights & measures. |
