The Kolkata Police, a professional law enforcement agency, is engaged in prevention of crime, maintenance of law and order, management of traffic and in the co-ordination of various services provided by many other organizations that help in maintaining the safety and security of the citizens of Kolkata.
Police Department, being the most visible arm of the Government, is often the first point of contact between the citizens and the local Government. We, at Kolkata Police, are conscious of the great responsibility bestowed on us and are fully prepared to assist you in all possible ways.
The cosmopolitan city of Kolkata poses a unique challenge to Kolkata Police. In addition to the problems common to all other urban cities, this city has a large number of migrants from all over the country and a huge floating population who come to this great city for their daily livelihood.
Kolkata Police through its various community policing schemes has been constantly striving to improve its relation with the citizens of Kolkata and ensure highest level of public safety and welfare for them. We are conscious that without citizen’s support we would be far less successful in our endavour to serve the community.
In our efforts to combat the unconventional crimes committed through Internet (Cyber Crime) we are constantly upgrading the skills of our professional manpower and technology at the Cyber Crime Cell of Detective Department. We assure that Kolkata Police will be able to effectively deal with any challenge posed by the criminals who are increasingly adept in modern technology.
Shortly, Kolkata Police will be ushering in new technologies in the form of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) to serve the citizens, even more promptly.
Installation of 24 X 7 surveillance facility at major intersections and installation of intelligent traffic signaling system will enable us to provide better traffic management and surveillance of important public areas will further enhance our capability of ensuring security at such places.
The above schemes are only a few of a large number of initiatives that Kolkata Police is undertaking to achieve its objective of providing safety and security for the citizens.
